Free travel itinerary template
A simple day-by-day template: one row per stop, with the time, the place, what you'll do, your bookings, the cost and notes. It's a CSV file, so it opens in Google Sheets, Excel or Numbers.
Download the template (CSV)Free, no sign-up. In Google Sheets: File → Import → Upload.
What each column is for
- Day / Date
- Which day of the trip, and the date.
- Time
- Start time. Leave gaps: a plan with no slack falls apart by lunch.
- Place
- The name you'd search for in a maps app.
- Address or area
- So you can see which stops are close together.
- What to do
- Visit, eat, walk, rest. One line is enough.
- Booking / confirmation #
- Tickets, tables and tours you've already booked.
- Cost
- Rough is fine; it adds up quickly.
- Notes
- Opening hours, what to order, the thing a friend told you to see.
A filled-in day, as an example
| Day | Time | Place | Area | What to do |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 09:00 | Central Park | Upper East Side entrance | Walk to Bethesda Terrace |
| 1 | 12:30 | Lunch nearby | Upper East Side | Lunch |
| 1 | 15:00 | The Met | 1000 5th Ave | Museum, 2-3 hours |
| 1 | 19:00 | Dinner | Upper West Side | Book ahead |
Tips for filling it in
- Plan three or four things a day, not eight. Travel between places takes longer than it looks.
- Put the one thing you'd hate to miss early in the trip, so bad weather has a second chance.
- Group each day by area. Two stops on opposite sides of town cost you an hour.
- Keep one free afternoon. It's the part people remember.
Rather not fill in a spreadsheet?
Wanderjoy is an iPhone app that drafts the day-by-day plan for you from your destination and dates, and shows every stop on a map with a route for each day, which is the one thing a spreadsheet can't do. How it works.
